Profession Diversification: NBA To Honour MAPOLY Rector For Training Members In Agriculture

By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
The good work of Rector, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr Samson Odedina has been noticed away from his base as the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Akure Branch, Ondo State capital is set to honour him.
With this award holding on December 4th, 2019, at International Cultural and Event Center, Akure, it will be an addition to the series of awards running to about twenty that the rector has received this year.
Recently, Dr. Odedina was recognised for his contribution to agricultural development by the Department of Agricultural Administration (AGAD) Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
Dr Odedina, who was a former Provost of Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA) was decorated and honoured with the “Award of Excellence in Administrative Prowess” during the 10th Anniversary of the Department of Agricultural Administration held at the Post-Graduate Hall of FUNAAB, his Alma Mata.
However, the Rector, out of curiosity to boost agriculture in Nigeria without minding the profession has trained many lawyers on how to be self sufficient in agriculture and to increase food production during his tenure as the Provost of Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA).
This singular effort of Dr. Odedina that is yielding positive results across the Sunshine State has drawn the attention of the Akure branch of NBA, who has proposed to confer on him the honourary award of ‘Friend of the Bar’ next month. Showing their commitment, the NBA through the branch chairman, Ola Dan Olawale esq., has written a letter to inform the rector of the award in recognition of his effort in training lawyers in agriculture, far different from their area of expertise.
Meanwhile, management staff, students, friends and associates are expected to grace the occasion to celebrate the man, whose efforts has tremendously transformed MAPOLY, as well as brought relatively peace and harmony even across the institution and its community.
It is on record that under the tutelage of Dr. Odedina, MAPOLY recently bagged the “Best Participating Institution in SIWES Activities in 2018 Training Year” presented at the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Abeokuta Area Office, in recognition of the institution participation in the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).
The last time that the institution was awarded the Best Performing Institution in SIWES Operations was in 2006 at the 10th Biennial National Conference held in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
