Press Release: Adesanya-Davies Commends US Troops Arrival in Nigeria

Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, a former presidential candidate from Kwara State, has commended the arrival of US troops in Nigeria, saying it’s a step towards strengthening bilateral defense cooperation and supporting Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism and insurgency.

The US military presence is aimed at intelligence support and training, and is part of ongoing cooperation to combat terrorism and insurgency in the region. The Nigerian government has clarified that the deployment is limited to intelligence support and training, and is a coordinated effort between the Nigerian government and the United States.

The move comes amid escalating violence against Christians in Nigeria, with President Donald Trump accusing the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians from Islamist militants. However, the Nigerian government denies any systematic persecution of Christians, saying it’s targeting Islamist fighters and other armed groups that attack both Christian and Muslim civilians.

Professor Adesanya-Davies said, “This development is a welcome relief in our fight against terrorism. We appreciate the support of our international partners in combating this menace.”
