President Buhari to visit Sambisa Forest

President Muhammadu Buhari will visit Sambisa Forest, Boko Haram’s former stronghold, on Monday.

This was announced by The Chief of Training and Operations, Army, Major General David Amadu, during a press briefing on Friday in Maiduguri to kick-start the the Nigerian Army Small Arms Championship, NASAC 2017.

The president is expected to formally declare NASAC 2017 open.

After the insurgent group was dislodged from the forest, the Nigerian Military decided to turn the former game reserve to a military institution. Construction of roads into Sambisa have since begun.

The vast expanse of land, will now host the annual Small Arms Competition.

Buhari will be accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Alhaji Mansur Ali and Service Chiefs, Chief of Defense Staff, General Gabriel Olanisakin, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Sadique and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Obet Ebas
