Plateau Governor Mutfwang rejects pressure to dump PDP for APC

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has dismissed mounting pressure from political stakeholders urging him to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at an event on Saturday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos, Mutfwang reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, declaring that only God and the people who elected him could influence his political decisions.

“It is true that they have been pressuring me,” the governor said.

“But I told them only two entities can authorise me to leave my party — the God of heaven and you, the people.”

Addressing the audience, Mutfwang asked, “Have you asked me to go anywhere?” to which the crowd loudly replied, “No.”

His statement follows recent developments in the state’s political landscape, where APC stakeholders publicly distanced themselves from reports suggesting Mutfwang might join their ranks.

At a recent APC stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, members unanimously opposed a proposal to admit the governor into the party.
