PDP Leaders hail court judgment restoring order, legality in the party

Eminent leaders and concerned stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have commended the Federal High Court, Abuja, for its landmark judgment delivered on Friday, October 31, 2025, which reaffirmed the supremacy of the PDP Constitution and restored legal order within the party.

In a communiqué issued at the end of their meeting in Abuja, the PDP leaders described the ruling as a victory for democracy, justice, and the rule of law. They expressed appreciation to the judiciary for its “courage in upholding truth over impunity” and reaffirmed their commitment to fairness, equity, and inclusivity — the founding ideals of the PDP.

Court Upholds Party Constitution, Clarifies Leadership Positions

The stakeholders noted that the judgment had conclusively clarified the lawful roles and boundaries of party officers in the management of the PDP’s affairs, reaffirming the supremacy of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the PDP Constitution.

According to the communiqué, the court affirmed Chief Dan Osi Orbih as the authentic National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the party, declaring the purported appointment of Chief Emmanuel Ogidi as null and void. The court also upheld the expulsion of Ali Odefa, a move the stakeholders said had restored “integrity and discipline” to the party’s administration.

Furthermore, the judgment reiterated that all official correspondences to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must be jointly signed by the National Chairman and the National Secretary, with the National Secretary remaining the principal signatory to official documents.

The court also ruled that no valid national convention of the PDP can be convened until all constitutional and procedural requirements are fully met, emphasizing the need for strict compliance with legal and party guidelines.

Stakeholders Reaffirm Commitment to Reconciliation and Rule of Law

The leaders stressed that the plaintiffs’ action was not an internal interference but a patriotic effort to ensure INEC fulfills its constitutional role in promoting internal democracy within political parties.

In their resolutions, the PDP stakeholders vowed to abide by the court judgment in its entirety, reaffirming their faith in the judiciary. They also extended an olive branch to all genuine members across the country to join hands in rebuilding the party in line with its founding principles.

“As loyal and committed party leaders, our doors are open to reconciliation, inclusion, and collective rebuilding,” the communiqué stated.
“We call on all faithful members and leaders to stand for truth, justice, and the rule of law — the very values that define our great Party and its promise to Nigerians.”

The communiqué concluded with a reaffirmation of loyalty to the nation and the PDP.
