PDP formally reinstate Anyanwu as National Secretary

…. Postpone NEC meetinh

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as its National Secretary and has deferred the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting previously scheduled for June 30.

This resolution was disclosed on Wednesday by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, during a press conference at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

The announcement followed a high-level, closed-door engagement with representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), signaling the party’s intent to realign internal processes with electoral regulatory expectations.

Accompanied by prominent figures including Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other influential stakeholders,

Damagum characterized the reinstatement of Senator Anyanwu as a “challenging but strategically imperative” decision—one that had secured the consensus of critical power blocs within the PDP.

“Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been restored to the National Working Committee as the National Secretary,” Damagum affirmed, underscoring that the action, although complex, reflects the prevailing sentiment of the party’s key governance structures.

Regarding the NEC meeting, Damagum clarified that, due to procedural considerations—most notably the absence of formal notification to INEC—the PDP would instead convene an expanded caucus session on June 30.

This gathering, he stated, will serve as a consultative platform to deliberate on organizational cohesion and chart the party’s strategic direction ahead of a rescheduled NEC meeting.

“In view of INEC not having received formal communication, we shall proceed with an expanded Caucus meeting on the 30th of June.

The full NEC session will be convened subsequently,” he concluded.

This development marks a pivotal moment in the PDP’s ongoing efforts to fortify its internal democratic institutions and reposition itself ahead of the next electoral cycle.
