PDP calls on NASS to rejig the 2025 budget as presented by Tinubu, describing it as anti-people

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the N47.9 trillion 2025 federal budget estimates presented by President Bola Tinubu, describing it as anti-people and insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.

According to the PDP, the budget fails to make meaningful provisions for critical sectors such as agriculture, electricity, petroleum, and small and medium-scale enterprises, which are the backbone of the national economy.

The party also expressed disappointment with President Tinubu’s claim that the 2024 budget recorded an 85% performance without providing a breakdown of the component between recurrent and capital expenditure. Furthermore, the PDP described as “ludicrous” the President’s claim that the economy has improved under his watch, despite the prevailing poverty, hardship, and infrastructure decay.

The budget lacks transparency, as the President failed to disclose the Capital and Recurrent profiles

The PDP noted that the budget lacks transparency, as the President failed to disclose the Capital and Recurrent profiles. The party also questioned the budget’s unrealistic targets, including reducing inflation from 34.6% to 15% and improving the value of the Naira without tangible investments in the productive sector. Additionally, the PDP expressed concern over the heavy debt burden, with a N15.8 trillion provision for Debt Services amidst a staggering N134.3 trillion ($91.3 billion) debt accumulated under the APC watch.

Reject the budget in its current form and instead, activate its legislative powers to rejig the budget

The PDP has urged the National Assembly to reject the budget in its current form and instead, activate its legislative powers to rejig the budget and make provisions that prioritize the growth of the economy and the welfare of Nigerians.
