Panic as gunmen attack Benue Links Bus, abduct passengers

Fear gripped commuters in Benue State on Sunday evening after armed men attacked a Benue Links commercial bus, robbing all occupants and abducting several passengers.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Eke, along the Otukpo-Otukpa highway in Okpokwu Local Government Area. Eyewitness accounts say the vehicle, with registration number 14B-143BN, was ambushed while in transit. The attackers reportedly blocked the road, brought the bus to a stop, and proceeded to strip passengers of their valuables before herding some of them into a nearby forest.

Comrade Austin Agada, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, arrived at the scene shortly after the attack. His swift intervention led to the immediate notification of security agencies, resulting in the prompt deployment of both military and police personnel to the area.

As of the time of filing this report, a joint security team had begun a search-and-rescue operation aimed at locating and freeing the abducted individuals.

Neither the Benue State government nor security authorities have released an official statement regarding the attack.
