Osun Commissioner Commends Farmkonnect Limited For Creating Job Opportunities

By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
The management of FarmKonnect Agricultural Business Nigeria Limited have been lauded for citing an agricultural mega wave city project which is capable of creating job opportunities for over 1,000 youths in Osun State.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Adedayo Adewole made this commendation at the inauguration of the farm project by Farmkonnect at Wasimi, Osun State, noting that the project was first of its kind that would take youths out of the street.
Hon. Adewole said: “It is easier to have a dream than to actualize it. Farmkonnect has actualized its dream that it started for over three years. Today, having FarmKonnect in Osun is another dream.
“Having agricultural facilities to develop agriculture in the South-West is another dream to be realized. South-West and other parts of Nigeria should start producing what is eatable. The era whereby we order for tooth picks, pizza from London is over. Farmkonnect has realized this dream.
“Agriculture is one of the major potentials to create jobs for both skill and unskilled labour. FarmKonnect is first of its kind in the state, I believe this is just the beginning, my office is open and the Ministry of Agriculture is also open to supporting any investors in agriculture so that the state can create better future for youths in Osun.
“Governor Gboyega Oyetola has always said that agriculture is a priority and it is key in his main agenda in the state.”
Also speaking at the event, Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Yemi Lawal gave kudos to Farmkonnect for bringing this laudable project to the state and thereafter prayed for the sustainability of the project.
Speaking earlier, the Founder Entrepreneurship Initiative, Dr. Bosede Ogunlana congratulated the founder of Farmkonnect, Mr Azeez Oluwole for bringing this project into the state and for solving the major problem that leads to the search of greener pasture abroad.
She used the medium to encourage the youths to engage themselves in farming instead of searching for white collar jobs when there is now hope for Nigerian youths.
In his remarks, Oluwole appreciated governor Oyetola for his support towards agriculture. “Wave city is another Mega Project embarked upon by FarmKonnect, and it is a 507 hectares farm. The plan is to erect 10,000 units of fruit and leafy vegetables for indoor production of healthy vegetables and fruits such as tomatoes, habaneros, chilli, eggplants and root crops such as carrots, potatoes among others.
Various green house technologies will be utilized to meet the specific needs of these crops. The produce of the green houses will serve the south west part of Nigeria and the export market. The green houses will put healthy vegetables on the tables of Nigerians at affordable prices.
“The selling point will be at Ibadan, Oyo state. All wastes from the greenhouses will service the insect farms and or biogas plants.”
He also stressed that their mission is to contribute immensely to food security and nutrition through real estate of modern technologies and methodologies.
One of the workers of Farmkonnect and an indigene of Osun State from Osogbo, Mr. Olatomiwa Kehinde appreciated the efforts of FarmKonnect for taking him off the streets by securing him a job and used the medium to call on the youths not to be roaming round the streets instead they should engage themselves in farming business.
