Princess Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies Congratulates Oba Oyetoro

Princess Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies has congratulated the Onira of Ira, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Alhaji) Abdulwahab Oyewale Oyetoro, following the presentation of his Certificate of Office as a First-Class Oba by the Kwara State Government.

The presentation, held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, marks a significant milestone for the Ira traditional institution and has been welcomed by sons and daughters of the kingdom.

In a congratulatory message, Adesanya-Davies described the elevation as a recognition of the heritage and traditional institution of the Ira people, saying the honour extends beyond the monarch to the entire kingdom.

“When the crown of the King is elevated, the glory of the Kingdom is elevated with it. Today, the joy of Ira is the joy of every son and daughter of Ira.”

She congratulated the Onira, the royal family, chiefs, community leaders and the people of Ira at home and in the diaspora on the historic development.

Adesanya-Davies also prayed for wisdom, strength, long life and divine protection for Oba Oyetoro, while asking God to make his reign a period of peace, unity, prosperity, cultural pride and development.

She offered traditional Yoruba royal prayers for the monarch, including: “K’Adé pe l’órí yín, kí bàtá pe lẹ́sẹ̀ yín”, expressing wishes for a long and enduring reign.

The Princess urged the people of Ira to mark the elevation with unity, dignity and thanksgiving, stressing that the First-Class status should be regarded as a collective heritage and source of pride for the kingdom.

She expressed optimism that the recognition would further strengthen the visibility of the Ira traditional institution and encourage greater unity and development among the people.

“Today, we do not merely celebrate a certificate. We celebrate the Crown. We celebrate the Throne. We celebrate our Heritage. We celebrate our King. And above all, we give glory to Almighty God for this historic day.”

She concluded by congratulating the Onira and the entire Ira Kingdom, praying that the monarch’s reign would endure in peace and prosperity.
