Omupo Grammar School celebrates Golden Jubilee….old students launch N50 Million development fund

A call has been made to all old students of Omupo Grammar School in Kwara State to always remember their alma-mater, which provided them the necessary foundation for their attainments in life.

The charge came from the Chairman of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee of the school’s Old Students’ Association, Professor Raphael Olawepo, while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday, July 25.

According to the Professor of Geography at University of Ilorin, who expressed unhappiness that many of the facilities in Omupo Grammar School that used to be pride of parents, staff and students had been allowed to deteriorate, there was little government would be able to do, in view of the number of schools under its care.

He took the opportunity to reveal that the National body of Omupo Grammar School Old Students’ Association had spent a sum of two-point-five million naira on rehabilitation of the school’s science laboratories, ahead of commissioning this weekend.

Meanwhile, arrangements have been concluded for the launch of a N 50 Million Development Fund in aid of the 50 year old institution at an elaborate fund raising event which holds in the school compound on Saturday July 29.

This will be followed with a reunion lunch of old students at home and in the diaspora same day.

This was announced by the Secretary of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee, Professor Noah Yusuf, who also disclosed that all arrangements have been concluded to ensure a hitch free celebration.

A special sevice is also slated to take place at the town’s Central Mosque, on Friday, July 28, while a thanksgiving service is scheduled for Saint Michael’s Anglican Church, Omupo, on Sunday, July 30.

Part of the golden jubilee activities will include a Health Walk from the school to the palace of the Olomu of Omupo and free medical check up for people of Omupo community.

In the meantime, the Chairman of the Lagos branch of the Old Students Association, Otunba Ademola Adedoyin has called on all old students of the school in Lagos to turn out en masse for the celebration of the golden jubilee as a mark of honour for the great institution.

“It is incumbent on us to turn out in large numbers and to contribute generously to the development of the institution that made us to be whom we are today. Let us rebuild a school that was once the pride of all of us”, he concluded.
