Olu Jacobs Dies at 84, Family Announces Passing of Veteran Actor
Veteran Nigerian actor and film executive, Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.
Jacobs passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, with his family announcing the death and appealing to the public to respect their privacy as they mourn the renowned thespian.
His son, Olusoji Jacobs, confirmed the development in a post on Instagram, describing the deceased as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
The family said Jacobs, whom they affectionately described as “The Lion of Lufodo,” lived a life for which they remained grateful to God.
The statement read: “It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.

Born on July 11, 1942, Jacobs built a career spanning several decades across theatre, television and film, earning recognition in Nigeria and internationally.
He developed an interest in acting early in life before travelling to the United Kingdom, where he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London.
His professional career included appearances in British television productions, stage performances and international films before he returned to Nigeria and became one of the most prominent figures in the country’s entertainment industry.
Over the years, Jacobs featured in numerous Nigerian productions and became particularly celebrated for his portrayal of authoritative, complex and commanding characters.
Beyond acting, he also played an important role in the development of Nigeria’s performing arts sector.
Together with his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, Jacobs was associated with the Lufodo Group and the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, through which the couple contributed to theatre production and the training of emerging talents.
His death marks the end of a distinguished career that made him one of the most recognisable figures in Nigerian theatre and screen entertainment.
