OGUN WARNS MANUFACTURING COMPANIES AGAINST ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION

Ogun State Government on Thursday warned manufacturing companies operating in the state on need to adhere strictly to laws guiding their operations and refrain from polluting the environment.
The Environmental Task Force Coordinator of Ministry of Environment, Kunle Adeotan, gave the warning during inspection tour of some industries located in Ewekoro and Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Areas of the state.
Highlighting on the importance of the inspection, Adeotan said it was aimed at enlightening them on the need to reduce industrial pollution which were highly hazardous to the environment, saying that they must find proper ways of controlling industrial fumes in accordance with global best practices.
He further stated that some companies violated the environmental laws of the State through improper waste management, lack of emission control, inadequate health facilities, lack of safety kits for their staff and other related environmental offences, enjoining them to keep their environment clean in order to avoid environmental hazards.
The coordinator charged some of the factories to get Environmental Impact Assessment Approval as well as Certified Waste Managers from the ministry to avoid unnecessary sanction.
He stressed that some companies had also been called to engage the service of Health Sanitarian Experts that would handle emergency cases in their companies.
Adeotan also said 21 days abatement notice had been issued to the affected industries to do the needful in order to avoid penalty.
