Ogun SWAN Tasks Abiodun To Sign Sports Bills Into Law

Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has been asked to assent to the State Sports Commission Bill and Sports Trust Fund Bill that have since been passed by the State House of Assembly.

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State chapter made this call while expressing concern about the state of sports in the state in a Communique issued at the end of SWAN Congress held on Thursday, October 15th, 2020 at its secretariat, MKO Abiola International stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The Communiqué Drafting Committee headed by Lekan Yinusa further advised the state Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Sports Council to work together to ensure that the state athletes get the best preparation ahead of the 2020 National Sports Festival tagged ‘Edo 2020’ which is still likely to hold this year.

The congress also urged the League Clubs in Ogun State to hit the ground running immediately with preparations as the ban on contact sports has been lifted by the FG. Admonishing clubs to also put in place COVID-19 protocols as well as conduct Covid-19 tests for players and officials.

However, the congress commended the Federal Government for lifting the ban on contact sports in the country and urged stakeholders to ensure that all COVID-19 protocols are put in place.

While it called on the Nigeria Football Federation to distribute the palliatives from the World Football Governing body, FIFA as soon as the  body receives the money.
