Ogun State government on Friday announced closure of seven fake medical facilities,just as it also warned that certified owners of Private health facilities across the State to desist from engaging the services of unqualified nurses and other health workers.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Babatunde Ipaye made this known, while monitoring the level of compliance with the re validation/registration of private health facilities at Akute in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
He gave names of the shut down medical facilities as include;Accurate Diagnostic Centre, The Mantle Clinic and Maternity Home, Bliss Medical Centre, Fibiani Medical Centre, Christian Maternity Home among others.
The Commissioner represented by the Director, Department of Hospital Services in the Ministry, Solomon Dr Sokunbi said the State would not be a comfort zone for quack Doctors, Nurses and Science Laboratory Operators who have endangered the lives of innocent Nigerians.
Accompained by executive members of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Ogun State Chapter, said the activities of unqualified health workers had caused a lot of havoc in the country,stressing that the warning order was to safe guard the profession against quackery and reposition the sector for quality health care delivery
While urging members of the public to always patronise approved health facilities that have signboards with the new colour and coded number, Ipaye said government has mandated officials of the Ministry to arrest and prosecute anyone found operating facilities with fake documents.
The Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Roseline Solarin,in her remark commended the State government for taken bold steps in fighting quackery in the health sector.
Solarin pointed out that fake doctors and nurses are gradually taking over the profession, warning that anyone caught practicing without the prerequisite certificate would be shown the way out of the system.
