OGUN RADIO STAFF BEGINS STRIKE ON TUESDAY OVER NON-PAYMENT OF SIX YEARS N148MILLION ENTITLEMENTS
The Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation,(OGBC),may effective from next Tuesday shut down completely going the threat of its workforce to embark on definite strike,if the management fail to heed to their demands.
The staffers alleged that,the management its owing them the sum of N148,260,000 which is an outstanding entitlements the management failed to pay.
It would be recalled that,the workers under the banners of Nigeria Union of Journalists,NUJ, and Radio Television and Theater Arts Workers Union,RATTAWU,had earlier issued out 21 days and 7 days ultimatum respectively which lasped on Friday.
However,in a new development on Friday at a joint press conference held on Friday, the expiration day,the two unions gave another three workings days for the management to turn a new leaf. The warning will expired next Tuesday.
Speaking at the conference held at Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta, Abiodun Ogundipe( NUJ Chapel Chairman) and Ayo Aina(Chapel RATTAWU Chairman) declared that,any ignore of the warning by the management would lead to commencement of indefinite strike.
The unions exonerated the state government from the allegations,pointing out that,it has been religiously paying the station subvention, while the radio station management had refused to meet its financial obligations towards the staff entitlements and welfare.
‘We therefore make it cear that we do not have aany problem or issues with Governor Ibikunle Amosun or the Ogun State Government,rather our call is to the management of OGBC to do the needful and live up to expectation’
The bodies also frowned at attitude of those said to be political elements trying to make political gains our of their demand.
‘These political elemnts have been taking opportunity of our ongoing struggle to introduce politics into the issue at hand. We have not employed any of these persons to be our mouth piece or bearers of our message. We are using this opportunity to disassociate ourselves,the two unions and all members of staff of OGBC from such’
It would be recalled that,the analysis has it that,the unpaid monies include; outstanding salaries for four months(N76.8m),pension deductions from 2012 to date(N45m),outstanding union dues for 2017(N464,000.00),national housing fund deductions for 2013 to date(N2m) and CTCS deduction of 2011-2016(N6m)
‘We would appreciate if the following demands are met for industrial harmony;(a) payment of outstanding salaries for four months at N76.8m, (b)payment of pension deductions from 2012 to date which is over N45m(c) payment of outstanding union dues for year 2017 at N464,000.00(d) National Housing Fund deductions of 2013 to date of over N2m(e) OGBC CTCS deduction of 2011-2016 of over N6m’,the unions emphasised
