Police Community Relations Committee,(PCRC),Ogun State Chapter in company of some Non-Governmental Organisations, on Monday embarked on a rally in support of the of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad,(FSARS),.
The Committee Chairman,Ibrahim Olaniyan led the rally which was held in some strategic locations in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Similarly,as a way to show solidarity for the squads in the state, the Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC )built an administrative block for SARS and the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB).
Olaniyan, while speaking kicked against the campaign to End SARS operations, declaring that those campaigning for scrapping of the anti-crime agency, were patrons of criminals.
He commended State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu and the Operation Commander of SARS,in the state, Adams Uba, for their commitment in curbing and fighting crime in the state.
His words “People that are calling to End SARS are patrons of kidnappers, patrons of Armed robbers. SARS in other states are not perfect, but in Ogun state, our SARS is perfect’.
He added “Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu is the SARS in Ogun state. The Commissioner Police have a loyal subordinate, in person of Adams Uba, a gallant and loyal officer. We call on other states to emulate CP Ahmed Illiasu’.
In her welcome address, Chairperson, PCRC Warewa Division, Dr. (Mrs) Nkem Akowe at the commissioning of the donated administrative block for SARS said the best thing that had ever happened to the Nigerian Police was the establishment of SARS.
She described the call for scrap of SARS,as unfortunate, pointing out that it was inspired by ulterior motives of some criminal elements and their sponsors.
“PCRC choose to embark on this project in appreciation for the special and committed job that the officers of SARS and SIB have been doing in this axis’,Akowe added.
“We have decided to build this administrative block to give them little comfort, and not sleeping or resting in the morning in between broken down cars around the station” she said.
Akowe disclosed that PCRC is building a tower in front of the Warewa Police station for easy monitoring and surveillance of the long bridge of Lagos/Ibadan express way, which had been ransacked by armed robbers and car snatchers.
“Apart from the administrative block, we are equally building a security tower in front of Warewa police station where a long range view of the long bridge can serve as monitoring spot for the police to observe the bridge and make it more secured’,she said.
“We are equally considering partnering with corporate organization and other highly placed individuals to see the possibility of lighting up the long bridge to make it more uncondusive for criminals’,she said.
The Commissioner of Police,Ahmed Ilyasu in his remark at the foundation laying ceremony of the building, extolled members of PCRC for the initiative, which he described as “a giant stride.”
He said effective policing can only be achieved at the grassroot level when the people show commitment and active involvement.
“The idea of security is for the people and by the people who safe guard their community; who make life possible for their people to live. That is my concept”IIiyasu said.
“We are committed to community policing; we are committed to every person who want to improve the safety and security of the people of the state. Our vision is to make this state safe for economic and social activities; and that is what we are doing”he said.
Iliyasu reiterated his intolerance for criminals and criminality in the state and signaled to intending criminals that his men were on the lookout.
“We have zero tolerance for criminality; no criminal will be spared as long as this state is concerned. Policemen are everywhere to fumigate all criminals out of the state’,Ilyasu declared.
