Ogun Para-Powerlifting Association Plans Own Camping Ahead Of Government Readiness

By ABIODUN JIMOH, ABEOKUTA
Not willing to leave any stone unturned at the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) in Edo State, Ogun State Para-Powerlifting Association has revealed plan to embark on early camping ahead of the state government proposed camping date for the state contingent.
The camping exercise will afford the lifters to have adequate preparation ahead for the festival challenge as all eyes would be on the state athletes, having secured new training equipment as well hosting the 1st South-West Para-Powerlifting Developmental Championship (SPDC) last year in Ijebu Ode, whereby the state athletes dominated the event.
Chairman of the Association, Gbolahan Eweje disclosed this at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta recently that all things being equal, all the fifteen para-powerlifters and two helpers would move to Ijebu Ode games village for the festival
Eweje stated: “Concerning preparation for the festival in Edo State, what we are planning as association is to put our athletes in camp so that before the state government will be ready for the while contingent camping exercise.
“This will afford our athletes the opportunity to have full and adequate preparation. If you leave them alone, it will affect their performance.
“Keeping them in camp will make them to concentrate in their training. And it will be in few days time, they will enter camp because we just need two weeks to be there.
“According to what I heard from the Director of Sports, this association was given fifteen athletes and two helpers to the festival. So these lifters will be in camp soon.”
Furthermore, Eweje, 2nd Vice President, Nigeria Para-Powerlifting Federation said: “By God’s grace, what I have been discussing with them since is by making them comfortable so that they can give us good merits.
“I know that they will perform well. Our targets at the festival is that I am sure of winning more than ten gold medals, and many other silver to support too.
“The only challenge is how to camp them and there is no way we will not give them something for allowance because they will leave their family behind. We are making effort to give them something, just to send it to them that they are coming and to make them happy. If we do that it will be okay.
“Prince Soname supported us at the 2019 1st South-West Para-Powerlifting Developmental Championship (SPDC) at Ijebu Ode. He supported the association with new equipment thereby making the state the first state to get this kind of equipment. And since then, he has shown us good hospitality.”
