Ogun @ 50: Abiodun declares today work free day to celebrate Golden Jubilee

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as a public holiday to mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, who explained that the holiday is intended to allow residents to actively participate in activities planned for the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

The statement noted that the anniversary signifies five decades of Ogun State’s political journey, steady development, and meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s national growth.

Residents were urged to commemorate the milestone in a spirit of unity and peace, as the state government reaffirmed its resolve to build on past successes while fast-tracking development initiatives for the benefit of all citizens.

Governor Abiodun also encouraged the people of Ogun State to make full use of the public holiday by taking part in the various programmes marking the 50th anniversary of the Gateway State.

Ogun State was created on February 3, 1976, and the Golden Jubilee celebration features a series of commemorative events aimed at reflecting on the past, celebrating present achievements, and projecting a prosperous future for the state.
