Ogoni Re-entry Marks a Historic Milestone in Reconciliation and Inclusive Development – NNPC Ltd.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has described the re-entry into Ogoniland as a historic milestone that symbolizes national reconciliation, justice, and sustainable development, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the presentation of the Ogoni Consultations Report at the State House, Abuja, President Tinubu acknowledged the long-standing sacrifices of the Ogoni people, affirming the government’s resolve to ensure that their pain leads to a future built on equity and progress.
“We are not, as a government, taking lightly the years of pain endured in Ogoniland. We recognise that… We declare with conviction that hope is here and is back with us,” the President stated.
Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, reaffirmed the company’s full commitment to the Ogoni re-entry plan, describing it as a bold step toward national healing. “The re-entry into Ogoniland is not just about oil and gas. It is about justice, healing, and charting a new future for our nation,” he said.
He emphasized that sustainable progress can only be achieved through transparency, stakeholder engagement, and community empowerment. Ojulari noted that NNPC Ltd. has already commenced infrastructure upgrades, road construction, and economic empowerment programs aimed at rebuilding trust and delivering tangible benefits to host communities.
The success of the re-entry process, according to Ojulari, was made possible through the collaborative efforts led by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Presidential Committee chaired by Professor Don Baridam.
“This journey must be anchored on justice, equity, sustainability, and most importantly, collaboration with the very people whose land bears this wealth,” Ojulari added.
NNPC Ltd. is committed to transforming Ogoniland into a beacon of reconciliation, renewal, and inclusive prosperity, setting a new standard for responsible energy development.
The Ogoni re-entry also sends a strong message to the international community that Nigeria is redefining energy development — placing environmental protection and community well-being at the core of its operations.
