Oboh Relishes Ladies Scottish Open

Georgia Oboh, Nigeria’s teenage female professional has set a future target for herself while appreciating the opportunity playing at the 2020 Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and Ladies European Tour (LET) Ladies Scottish Open.

The US Teens World Championship chmpion who was the only Nigerian representative at Aberdeen Standard Investment sponsored event missed the cut to get to the final stage of after Day-2 of the tournament at the weekend.

Oboh however, undaunted by her performance told DAILY INDEPENDENTLY on Saturday night from Scotland that the result was not her target, but the opportunity of participation was paramount to her as the future is “bigger and brighter” in her plans.

According to her, “Obviously, is not the result that I was looking for coming into this event; but I thank God for the opportunity to play, coming back after four months without golf.”

She added spiritually, “It’s really been a blessing so far in all ramifications, hence I’m looking forward to bigger and brighter things in my future,” she said.

The Nigerian number one female professional on the Day-2, had four bogeys on her front nine and two double bogeys on her second nine; a result analysts said was better, but not good enough to scale her through even as she recorded only one bogey on the 13th hole.

Ironically, her Day-1 was a media celebrated performance in the media, appearing among the tops on the leaderboard in spite of all odds.

Against this backdrop, the Edo State-born golfer commended the media, particularly in Nigeria for the support she received while the event lasted.

“I really appreciate the media for their wonderful job; the support is overwhelming, particularly the Nigerian media; please don’t relent, the future will be better for all of us by God’s grace,” she said.

Geoffrey Oboh, the manger cum caddy and father also reacting said, “The tournament was a wonderful experience and exposure for her.”

The event which started on Thursday, August 13, wrapped up on Sunday, August 16 at The Renaissance Club, North Berwick in Scotland.
