Obi Faults N142bn Bus Terminals

…says Health Sector Deserves Priority

Former Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, has criticised the Federal Government’s plan to spend N142 billion on building six bus terminals, describing it as a clear case of misplaced priority.

In a post on his verified X handle, Obi argued that at a time when Nigeria’s healthcare system—especially teaching hospitals—remains grossly underfunded and in urgent need of intervention, such expenditure on bus terminals reflects poor leadership and lack of focus.

He noted that the 2024 budget allocation for all federal teaching hospitals and psychiatric centres combined is below N100 billion, yet a larger amount has been earmarked for bus terminals.

Obi stressed that healthcare should take precedence, warning that the World Health Organisation recently reported over 20 million Nigerians live with mental health challenges.

“This is not only misplaced priority but a tragic irony of governance in our country,” he said.
