Obaseki attributes misplacement of society value as root of improper waste management

Misplacement of the society core values has been attributed as the cause of improper waste management in the country.
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki expressed this at a stakeholder forum organized by the Junior Chamber International (JCI), Benin City, Edo State capital.
The forum was to sensitize the citizens, and brainstorm to seek for the way forward on the role of government and private sector towards achieving a circular economy, clean, and healthy safe environment in Nigeria.
Governor Obaseki, represented by his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Environment, Dr. Felix Iyalomhe, remarked that waste were managed more on consciousness of the core values of the society in the olden days rather than the scientific and other methods practiced today.
He said: “The state government is working on policies and programs with all stakeholders and the organized private sector in tackling the challenges of waste management and ensuring a healthy environment for everyone in the state.”
Furthermore, other stakeholders at the event included a renowned media practitioner and JCI President of Nigeria 1980, Tony Abolo, who advocated the need for government to spend more funds, partner the academia and researchers in new ideas on waste management.
The president of JCI Benin metropolitan Amb. Efe Bevy Kporharor, hereby called on governments, NGOs and individuals in the society to support the upcoming program, world clean up day this month.
“The essence of the forum was to sensitize, educate and enlighten the general public on proper ways of managing waste management in the state.
“The forthcoming world clean up day is an annual event by the Junior Chamber International which will hold on September 15th, 2018 across the world.”
