Nyesom Wike: An Exemplary Minister For The FCT-Abuja, So Far!

His Excellency, NYESOM WIKE, ESQ., the Honourable Minister of Federal Capital Territory-Abuja (Former Governor of Rivers State), truth be told, has, since his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, since the year 2023 till date (i.e. year 2026), been performing with astounding performances in his official duties as Honourable Minister, FCT-Abuja. Sometimes, I personally wonder why he has all the time to perform so wonderfully despite the usual busy schedules his counterparts could have given as an excuse for low and or non-performance! Minister Wike is everywhere and everywhere you go, you see him or you hear him always being in action! Award of contracts to contractors became not as business as usual rather has been sanitised! If Minister Wike awards contract to your company and you are not actually on time to deliver, your award is revoked! It was during this tenure that you hardly observe an abandoned government public project unlike his predecessors! The FCT-Abuja has become a well urbanized territory just within not up to 4 years since his appointment! Some past Ministers of FCT, with respect to them, had spent two terms by their respective administrations and have achieved little or nothing compared to what the current Minister Wike has been able to achieve within these few years (less than 4 years)! A blessing to the FCT-Abuja; to the core! Minister Wike might not be a perfect human being indeed as he might sound in the hearts of his antagonists but notwithstanding, are those antagonists (either physically or with the aid of their vehicles) not passing on his commissioned public projects; for them to see that even if he is not liked by all or some of those persons, he should be appreciated for having wonderfully performed despite all odds; because the evidence is there in public to verify from! Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended)-herein after referred to as the Constitution, provides that ‘the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government’; how then do you hate a government that is fulfilling its constitutional purposes or duties?!

You can Google search Minister Wike’s achievements within these few years and you would be shocked to affirm that Minister Wike is indeed a great man that has great aspirations positively for the FCT-Abuja!

I thank (and we should all as residents of the FCT-Abuja thank) President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, for giving the FCT-Abuja, Minister Wike and thereby complements His Excellency’s tenure as President of the Federation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

I observed as a resident of the FCT-Abuja, having experienced a number of past administrations of FCT-Abuja, in comparison with Minister Wike’s administration, and I Google searched his tremendous achievements as records could bear, I discovered the following achievements credited to him in high scorecards than his predecessors in the FCT-Abuja thus:

1. Key Infrastructure & Projects Road Construction: Completed over 120 km of road projects across six area councils.
2. Major Road Networks: Commissioned major links including the N16-N20 link connecting Maitama, Katampe, Jahi, and Mabushi.
3. Key Projects: Completed Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX) Bridge 1 and significant work on the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX).
4. Rehabilitation: Completed rehabilitation of schools (e.g., JSS Life Camp) and significant progress on the Abuja Light Rail.
5. Public Buildings: Construction of the Vice President’s residence and the Luxury Judges Quarters in Gishiri.
6. Security & Administration Insecurity Tackling: Focused on strengthening security in the FCT through improved logistics for security agencies.
7. Revenue Generation: Enabled FCT to exit the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to unlock internally generated revenue (IGR) for projects.
8. Bureaucracy Strengthening: Approved the appointment of a head of civil service and permanent secretaries for the FCTA.
9. Urban Management & Improvements Market Regulation: Tackled indiscriminate markets in Abuja, regulating urban spaces.
10. Rural Development: Focused on rural infrastructure to boost economic activity. As of early 2026, his work has been lauded for improving the city’s infrastructure and development.
11. What of the ongoing official residential projects for judicial officials and structural projects for legal educational institutions (we must add)?!
12. Many other developments.
    Finally, therefore, Minister Wike might not be loved perhaps for personal reasons best known to his critiques, nevertheless, he should be appreciated for his wonderful performances and saving the face of the FCT-Abuja from disgrace to grace and from dishonour to honour and rejection to acceptance and from retrogression to progress and or development! You might not like him but believe in him!
