NUJ Honours DSS DG Ajayi as ‘Man of the Year’ for Strengthening Media-Security Relations
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honoured the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, with its prestigious “Man of the Year” award in recognition of his efforts to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and the media.
The award was presented on Friday at the conclusion of the NUJ’s two-day National Security Summit held in Abuja.
The summit, themed “Media and Security Agencies as Partners in Nation Building,” brought together media executives, journalists, security chiefs, policymakers, academics, civil society organisations and development partners from across the country.
According to the NUJ, the award reflects the importance of fostering cooperation between the media and security institutions in safeguarding lives, protecting democratic values and promoting national development.
Presenting the honour, the union said the recognition was an endorsement of a leadership style that prioritises engagement, transparency and partnership.
The NUJ noted that under Ajayi’s leadership, the DSS has maintained regular interactions with media stakeholders, creating communication channels that help reduce suspicion, counter misinformation and encourage collaborative approaches to addressing security challenges.
The union added that stronger relationships between journalists and security agencies are essential to enhancing public trust, improving information management and supporting efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability across the country.
The summit featured discussions on the role of the media in national security, responsible reporting and the need for closer cooperation between journalists and security institutions in tackling emerging threats.
