NSCEA Mourns Kwara Abducted and Killed ECWA Pastor

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs (NSCEA) is deeply saddened by the tragic killing of Reverend James Issa, a pastor with the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), who was abducted by terrorists from Ekati village in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State on August 28, 2025.

The Council condemns in the strongest terms the brutal and senseless killing of Rev. Issa, despite his family and church members paying a ransom of N5 million. This act of barbarism is a stark reminder of the insecurity and brutality faced by many Nigerians, particularly in rural communities.

The NSCEA extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the entire ECWA community, and prays for God’s comfort and peace to reign in their hearts during this difficult time.

We call on the relevant authorities to intensify efforts to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, particularly in Kwara State, where insecurity has reached alarming levels. The Council also urges the government to take concrete steps to address the root causes of banditry and terrorism in the region.

The NSCEA stands in solidarity with the ECWA and the Christian community in mourning the loss of Rev. Issa and prays for an end to the violence and bloodshed in our nation.

May God bless and protect Rivers State and Nigeria.

Signed

Bishop Prof Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies
Secretary General, Elders’ Council, Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs (NSCEA)
