NSCEA Condemns Ongoing Insecurity In Kwara State
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs (NSCEA) is deeply disturbed by the escalating insecurity in Kwara State, where communities are being ravaged by bandits, resulting in loss of lives, displacement of citizens, and destruction of properties.
We strongly condemn the attacks on innocent citizens, including the killing of the Igbaja vigilante leader and the chief hunter of Oke-Oke Oluode, among others. The rustling of hundreds of cows, ransacking of homes, looting of properties, kidnapping of women and men, and scores left with injuries are acts of terrorism that have no place in our society.
Reports stated that communities at IFELODUN LGA such as Ologomon, Ajegunle, Iwo-Agbon, Alabe Idera, Owode, Alasoro, Alamon, Bankole, Sagbe, Lata Nna, Lema, and Gamalegi have been attacked, with reports of killings, kidnappings, and destruction of properties. The residents were seen in videos fleeing their communities and their homes left ghostly.
The NSCEA is particularly concerned about the seeming lack of adequate response from the state government to address the security challenges, despite the pleas from affected communities and their serious distress calls. The absence of army presence and the overwhelmed, under-armed, and outnumbered police force have emboldened the bandits to march into communities, slaughter at will, and leave behind ashes.
The NSCEA emphasizes the importance of leadership and accountability in addressing the security challenges in Kwara State. The council urges the government to kindly take responsibility for the safety of its citizens and to be accountable for its actions.
Again, we call on both the state and the federal government to take immediate and decisive action to address the security situation, protect the citizens, and bring the perpetrators to justice. The government must prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens, particularly in the face of such egregious attacks.
The NSCEA urges all Nigerians to remain vigilant and work together to promote peace and security in our communities. We pray for the affected communities and call on the Almighty God to intervene in the situation in Jesus precious name, amen.
