Notorious bandit kingpin Isah Peter arrested in Benue

Security operatives have arrested a suspected notorious bandit kingpin, Isah Peter, in Benue State, following sustained operations against criminal elements in the area.

Isah Peter, an indigene of Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State and of Idoma extraction, was arrested alongside Moses Peter, according to security sources. He is alleged to be a key figure behind several violent crimes across parts of the state.

Authorities said the suspect is linked to the attack on Anwule community, which reportedly led to the killing of several residents, including a pastor. He is also accused of orchestrating multiple attacks, kidnappings and killings along the Otukpo–Oweto Road, a major route that has witnessed repeated incidents of banditry in recent times.

During preliminary interrogation, security sources disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed to supplying weapons to other bandit groups, a development investigators say could help unravel wider criminal networks operating in Benue and neighbouring areas.

Security agencies noted that investigations are ongoing to identify collaborators and recover arms linked to the suspect’s activities. The suspects are expected to be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The Benue State Government has reiterated its commitment to working with security agencies to restore peace, urging residents to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security operations.
