NNPC Limited restores Escravos–Lagos pipeline to full operations

Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced the successful restoration of the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS), returning the critical energy infrastructure to full operations after an unexpected explosion on December 10, 2025.

In a statement issued on Monday , the company said it immediately activated its emergency response plan following the incident, deploying coordinated containment and repair measures to address the damaged section of the pipeline. According to NNPC Limited, multidisciplinary technical teams worked round the clock to repair, pressure-test, and safely recommission the system in record time.

“The pipeline is now fully operational, reaffirming our resilience and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s energy security,” the statement said.

NNPC Limited attributed the swift restoration to the cooperation and support of host communities, the guidance of regulatory authorities, the vigilance of security agencies, and the dedication of its partners and staff. The company emphasized that safety and environmental protection remained top priorities throughout the repair process.

The restoration of the ELPS is expected to stabilize gas supply to key industrial and power generation facilities, reinforcing the reliability of Nigeria’s energy infrastructure.

As it moves forward, NNPC Limited reiterated its commitment to protecting the environment, safeguarding host communities, and maintaining the integrity of its assets, while continuing to deliver value to the nation and beyond.
