NMDPRA Chief disowns statement on Dangote’s corruption allegations

The Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed, has disclaimed a statement purportedly issued by him in response to corruption allegations made by the Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

In a clarification issued on Tuesday, Engr. Ahmed said his attention had been drawn to a response circulating in the public space and attributed to him, stressing that the statement did not originate from him.

“My attention has been drawn to a purported response that I was said to have made regarding the recent allegations against my person. I hereby categorically state that the said statement did not emanate from me,” he said.

While acknowledging awareness of what he described as “wild and spurious allegations” made against him and members of his family, the NMDPRA chief said he deliberately refrained from engaging in public exchanges due to the sensitive nature of the industry he regulates.

He noted that the allegations had now been formally submitted to an investigative institution, expressing confidence that the process would allow for an objective examination of the issues raised.

“Thankfully, the individual behind the allegations has taken the matter to a formal investigative institution. I believe this will provide an opportunity to dispassionately examine the issues and ultimately clear my name,” Engr. Ahmed added.

The development comes amid heightened public attention following Dangote’s petition accusing the NMDPRA boss of corruption and financial impropriety.
