Nigerians Calls On Buhari To Ignore Past, Focus On Future

Omooba Risawe
Nigerians have called on the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammed Buhari to do away in focusing more on the past, but rather be proactive in making a better country.
This was the submission of participants on social media, known as penpushing platform, stressing that it is no more news that, the economic had been battered, but what should be paramount is now to focus on better future for the citizens.
In his own contribution, Engr Titus Olowokere said, ‘there have never been a doubt about the mindless looting of the national treasury under the last administration. I believe the crux of the matter, the yearning of the populace , is for the current administration not to keep focusing on the known past, but rather to stop the bleeding from those stabs, reverse the effects of the economic vicissitudes, restore the health of the nation and make a positive change in the lives of Nigerians.
He pointed out that,it was true many Nigerians never knew the looting was this bad, recalling and arguing that the looting has nothing to do with taking 8 months or thereabouts to appoint ministers.
‘Donald Trump as unprepared as he was for the US presidency, appointed almost all the cabinet members even before his inauguration’,the Nigerian USA based engineer said.
‘The looting has little to do with the fiscal policies that allowed the exchange rate to stifle local Industry growth. More and more businesses are groaning or folding up. Key raw materials, that were not available locally, were put on the “prohibited” list for imports. Dangote and two other tomato processing companies have indicated decisions to wind down operations soonest. Some international airlines have stopped flying to Nigeria allegedly because of remittance challenges’,he observed.
Olowookere said, he was not making any partisan political speech, but just examining the realities of the moment from a neutral angle. ‘I know there are challenges. It’s true that the preponderance of looting is one of the stumbling blocks. However it should no longer be an excuse for not meeting the expectations of the populace for good governance’.
He also pointed out that most countries have similar or identical national challenges, stating that China is several times more populated than Nigeria with enormous cultural and language diversity, while Ghana, next door, though smaller is not plaqued with “committed leadership” challenges.
The participant submited that our issue is leadership, adding that we’ve spent decades planning for good governance. ‘The paradox is we are sinking deeper into era of ineptitude. In my opinion the age of methuselah (USA) has nothing to do with the wisdom of Solomon. We are roughly the size of California’.
‘The future starts today, but for Nigeria it doesn’t seem to ever start. My point in summary, is that we as a country have no excuse for our lackluster performance. There are challenges but not insurmountable. We should all also personify the slogan ” I am Nigera and the change starts with me”.
He spoke further, saying Nigerians in the Diaspora are 100% or more full-blooded Nigerians, cognizant of, and identifying with prevailing challenges of governance in Nigeria. “We are all together” !!
Kayode Akinsola, a legal practitioner in his own remark noted that, to lead our country is about the toughest task around the globe, adding that, our configuration is premised on many anomaly, and to solve a problem is to create another problem.
‘I am not a fan of any government neither a political divide, what I have observed over the years is that there are many unseen forces that seem to have bedeviled the nation’,Akinsola said.
‘Nigerians ask for little? Biafra are saying they want to leave, the Northerners are saying No, which one do we hold?. This is country of over 200 tribes, if we decimate the Nation to a Yoruba Country, that is when you will know that Olugbo really hates Ife people, this will be when you will know that an Ekiti man don’t love Ibadan people. Our challenges are just too many!!’,he added
‘Poverty of leadership alone is an everlasting woe that appears like great challenge. Nigerians had thought that APC as political party should be able to bring solace to their weeping that has endured beyond a night. Today, what do we have? Saraki, Amosun, Ajimobi, Tambuwal, Lasun to mention few who are of PDP extraction were recycled, this is not to say that they are responsible for our woes, far from it!’,the lawyer stated
‘How can any sane man employ a 74 years old to manage the affairs of his business like recruited PMB with our votes? What happened to the Lagos magic Fashola exemplified while serving as governor? We have many issues, which are quite enormous… Though summountable..’,he added
Similarly,Ola Animasahun,a public analyst in his own reaction, said US has structures and workable system to make any dumb man succeed as the American President, arguing that Nigeria has nothing called systems.
‘In Judiciary for example, getting the data of those that have been convicted in Nigeria is a tall order! No data, failed civil service, bad feedback system, no indexing…’,Animasaun said
He said Nigerians should not compare President Muhammed Buhari platform with that of Donald Trump, stressing that, ‘If Trump should engage my President, he must throw in the towels, Trump was a successful businessman in Billions… Please, no basis for comparison’
‘I think both the LEADERS AND THE LED allowed THE CREATED COMPLEXITIES of Nigeria to OVERPOWER our possible CAPACITIES to make things work. I may want to differ slightly with the ’74 year old’.. factor. At least there is a comparative gbogbo example of contemporary time IN the ‘great TRUMP’, no matter what we think of him’.
‘I think it is more of political-will-power to turn situation around positively, than the age factor. It not a 100 metre race or weight lifting exercise. What gives us the impression that a 40year old with untailored mind-set for Pragmatic-Changes can make any significant difference. !?You might want to reconsider my earlier submission that both the LEADERS and the LED contributed to these mess. The failure or non-existence of STRUCTURES dates back’.
‘ And the fact that someone was/is a successful business man before getting to power does not diminish the capacities in others from different undertakings!!
And by- the-way, who says if TRUMP should come to Nigeria today, he would be a successful president ? I agree with you on the CENTRAL-DATA-BANK factor. That is one of the major challenges we have to sort out if we must move forward. I am a committed apostle of that’,Animasaun stated.
Another contributor, Engr Dideolu Falobi said he disagreed the submission that to lead Nigeria is difficult, arguing that what Nigerians asked for for is little, ‘we are hardworking and continue to thrive despite the poverty of leadership. We do not even to protest’.
On his own part,Segun Ojelade said, ‘personally, I think Trump would have done better as the Nigerian President than Buhari even with the absence of everything. The truth be told, our recruitment for leadership positions is faulty.
‘Age as someone earlier said may not count much but pedigree is major. Maybe our President at the material time should have more qualification for the office than just integrity, sentiments apart’,he posited.
