Nigerian National League,(NNL), has called on government at all levels on need to expend more money on sports development towards revolutioning the sector.
The Chief Executive Officer of the body,Bukola Olopade stated this on Thursday while featuring as guest of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria,SWAN, Ogun State Chapter in Abeokuta.
Olopade while speaking at SWAN secretariat located inside the Moshood Abiola International Stadium, specifically pointed out Ogun State, as one of the states, not showing commitment to sports development.
The former Commissioner for Youths ND Sports, whose tenure hosted National Sports Festival and Junior World Soccer Championship in Ogun State lamented dwindling of sports development in the state after the exit of past administration headed by Gbenga Daniel as the governor.
He argued that the sector could fetch more money into the state coffers in the nearest future than infrastructural development, which seem to be interest of the Governor of Ogun State.
The NNL boss advised Governor Ibikunle Amosun not to play politics with sports development, rather his government should learn from sports achievements of his predecessor to improve better
He,however, commended the governor for laying the Mundo track at the M.K.O Abiola stadium, just as he also observed that some of the roads being constructed across the state can be used for marathon race in the future.
Olopade also advised the state government to reactivate local and grassroot sports competitions so as to put to use some of the facilities that are wasting away.
He emphasised that,by so doing, athletes that could represent the state and the country at international competitions can be discovered.
