The Nigerian delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament has expressed satisfaction with the current security situation in the country characterised by killings by Boko Haram and Bandits as well as rising space of kidnapping.
While presenting a report to Parliament on the state of Nigeria, the delegation said: “Overall, Nigeria’s Security Situation has been satisfactory this year. The Government continues to make concerted efforts towards the safety of Nigerian citizens”.
Shortly after adjudging the security situation as satisfactory, Hon. Sadiq Ibrahim who read the report on behalf of the delegation, went on to tell Parliament that Boko Haram still remained a threatening occurrence in Nigeria with many citizens falling victim to mass killings and displacements.
It also informed the sub-regional parliament that during the February to March elections, many Nigerians in the Boko Haram ravaged areas of the North were only able to leave their houses to cast their votes because of heavy presence of security.
Although the delegation said that government was doing what it could to stem the tide of insurgency, it admitted the other security threats had also arisen.
“Unfortunately, while the North East geo political zone is stabilizing as a result of the degrading capacity of Boko Haram insurgency, a new phenomenon of kidnapping and banditry is emerging including kidnapping along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.
