Nigeria Begins Early Preparations for 2026 Hajj, Secures 95,000 Slots

Just weeks after the conclusion of the 2025 Hajj, Nigeria has launched preparations for next year’s pilgrimage, with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) taking proactive steps to prevent the logistical challenges experienced in the past.

The Commission has already secured 95,000 slots for Nigerian pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj, and is aligning its planning with the operational calendar set by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

To meet early deadlines set by the Saudi authorities, NAHCON Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, is currently leading a delegation in Saudi Arabia to finalize key arrangements. The team is negotiating contracts for accommodation and transportation well ahead of the September 23–24, 2025 deadline.

Saudi Arabia’s schedule outlines several critical dates:

September 6–23, 2025: Early contracting and payment for essential services

September 23–24, 2025: Deadline for accommodation and transportation contracts

January 4, 2026: Completion of all contracts

April 16, 2026: Start of pilgrim departures

As part of its visit, the delegation has held meetings with major service providers, including Mashariq Dhahabiya, the firm responsible for Masha’ir services during the 2025 Hajj, to secure better terms for Nigerian pilgrims.

In addition to logistics, NAHCON is intensifying its digital transformation drive and expanding the Hajj Savings Scheme through new banking partnerships. Pilgrims are being encouraged to begin early payments and remittances to ease planning.

The Commission has also strengthened collaboration with State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards and Licensed Tour Operators across the country.

Supported by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, NAHCON says its early start is part of a broader strategy to position Nigeria as a leading example of efficient Hajj management in Africa, with a strong focus on ensuring the comfort and welfare of pilgrims.
