Nigeria @ 60: “Let us remember our national heroes as appreciation to what they went through to get freedom for us” – ESV Okas Wike

President and Chairman National Council of Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers ESV Sir (Chief) Emmanuel Okas Wike, FNIVS, RSV, FMP, RWA  has called on members particularly Nigeria to use the nation’s 60th independent anniversary celebration  to soberly ruminate on the struggle, suffering and difficulties that a generation of Nigerians had to endure to win the long-drawn battle for freedom, independence, and sovereignty, with a renewed commitment to the unity, peace and development of our dear nation.

ESV Okas Wike made the call in his address to his colleagues and Nigerians as a whole on the 60th Independence anniversary celebration.

His words; “Today is the anniversary of the day Nigeria got her independence as a nation. The day we got the most cherished of human desires; our freedom. It was the day we started building our country and institutions independently. Thus began a new era of freedom for Nigeria on this joyous day in 1960.

“Today is a day of celebration of all we have built in the past 60 years. It is also a day of solemn reflection on the countless difficulties and the challenges we have gone through, and still going through, even as we strive to create a strong, virile and prosperous nation where peace, unity, and tranquility will reign supreme.

“Let us remember our national heroes, and as a measure of appreciation of what they went through in securing this cherished freedom for us, let us reestablish our pledge to uphold our national unity so that we can live together in peace and harmony.

“Let us work harder and cleave together as a united people to build an indivisible nation that is filled with peace, love, happiness, and prosperity. Let the same spirit be our propelling and driving force in our march to build our profession, and aspire to drive the profession into the centre of the best global practices.

“Let us eschew bickering and acrimonies, and resolve to remain under the same roof, the same umbrella and the same family of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers. That is the best we can do for ourselves, and our great Institution.

“Happy Nigerian Independence Day to my Noble Colleagues and to all Nigerians. Long Live Federal Republic of Nigeria Long Live Nigeria Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers.
