NANTs woman leader honered with chieftaincy title
The former Chairman of Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Ogidiga of Ifite Ogwari Kingdom, Anambra state, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Alphonsus Ofuebe has confered chieftaincy title on the Woman Leader, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTs), Chief (Mrs) Rachael Adewumi, . He said that he gave her the title because of her regular assistance to the widows, the poor and the needy in the society.
Adewumi is the president of Takem Empowerment Initiatives, a Non Governmental Oganisation (NGO) she uses in training and empowering the poor and the needy in Nigeria
The royal father gave her the chieftaincy title of Aka Ana Agbanyere Ogbenye, literally meaning: The Hand that Supports the Poor 1st of his kingdom. The event was done at the celebration of Onwa Esa Festival, literally meaning: The Seventh Month Festival, an age long festival people from Nsukka in Enugu state and environs celebrate and was jointly rekindled by the royal fsther and the convener, Joshua Ogbonna, which in turn threw the occasion into agog.
While granting royal interview to our correspondent, the royal father had this to say: “What I put into consideration before giving this title to Chief (Mrs) Rachael Adewumi is because, she has been coming to the succour of the less priviledged in the society and my people from Igbo land have also been benefitting from such gestures of hers. While I urge her to keep it on, so as to be receiving more blessings from God, I however advise people to emulate her, for the interest of the poor. For having been helping the poor, my prayers is that God continues to bless her abundantly.”
Similarly, Chief Muritala Odumbakun of Yorubas of Zuba, FCT commended the Igwe Ogidiga for considering the Woman Leader worthy of the title, even as he advised her to keep doing what she has been doing, that made the HRM to recognize her. Believing that the title will motivate her in helping the poor and promote unity and love in the society, he informe that it is customary to give title to women on merit in Yoruba land..
The NANTs Abuja Chairman, Dr Edozie Ugwu said for prominent traditional ruler of no note from Igbo land to give chieftaincy title to the Woman Leader, shows that there is rare quality in her, even as he added that Chief (Dr) Rachael Adewumi deserved the title, based on achievements and performance. “Our Woman Leader merits the title and I thank God that she has been recognized by a notable king from Igbo land. So she is capable and has good records to take the title. In my place, if you are told to continue what you are doing, it means that you are doing good. So let she keep doing good I therefore thank Igwe Ogidiga for extending the title to other tribes and that shows that he is a true Nigerian.”
The convener, Mr Ogbonna confirmed the celebration festival, which he said had Hebrew, connection, even as he informed that their ancestors had convenant with Abraham to that effect.Explaing that the purpose of rekindling about three of the festivals, Pastor Ogbonna said: “Chief Adewumi is worthy of the title. And I advise her to keep helping the poor, which earned her the title. No matter what, any time the poor call on her, she would respond.”
The Woman Leader herself, said that she was highly impressed for the honor, even as she promised to continue to help the poor. Chief (Mrs) Adewumi however hailed the Igwe Ogidiga for putting tribe apart and recognized her. She therefore added that with rhe title given to her, she would continue to unite Nigerians through help to the poor, irrespective of tribe, religion and sex.
Similarly, the Association’s Woman Leader in Kado Fish Market, Princess Val Adefioye said that their Woman Leaders hasn’t only been carrying them along, but has been empowering those in need, even as she confirmed that she empowered one of her members in the market. With the way she has been helping the poor, she went on, Dr (Mrs) Adewum’s helping hands cut across the country.
