Namadi Sambo denies defecting to APC, says viral claim is false and misleading
Former Vice President Namadi Sambo has dismissed reports claiming he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as baseless fabrications aimed at causing confusion and scoring cheap political points.
Sambo’s rebuttal was conveyed in a statement issued on Thursday by his media adviser, Umar Sani, in response to circulating reports and a photograph suggesting he had joined the APC.
The photo in question shows Sambo alongside Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, which fueled the speculation. However, Sani clarified that the image is old and unrelated to any political activity.
“The story alleging that His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, has joined the APC is entirely false and unfounded,” the statement said. “It is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.”
According to the statement, the photograph being used to support the claim was taken years ago during a condolence visit by Governor Uba Sani to Sambo’s residence in Abuja, following the passing of Sambo’s brother, the late Sani Sambo.
Sani further emphasized that Sambo remains a devoted and committed member of the PDP, with no intention of leaving the party.
He also noted that the former Vice President is expected to attend the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025—a project initiated during his time in office.
“His invitation to witness the completion of this legacy project, and possibly offer a few remarks, must not be misconstrued as a political endorsement or signal of a partisan switch,” the statement added.
