Naira crisis: Buhari addresses Nigerians on Thursday in nationwide broadcast

Barring a last-minute change in plan, President Muhammadu Buhari will address the nation on Thursday, February 16 in a state of the nation broadcast.

The broadcast will be made at 7 am.

Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President
(Media & Publicity) made the disclosure in a late statement on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.

“Television, radio stations and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast,” he said.

The crux of the President’s address to the nation is the naira redesign policy and the attendant scarcity of the new notes.

Hard-hit by scarcity, Nigerians have been protesting across the country in expression of their displeasure about their inability to access their deposits in the banks.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned hearing in a suit filed by some states against the Federal Government on the implementation of the naira redesign policy by the CBN.
