NAF Commissions New Accommodation, Sports Complex to Boost Personnel Morale
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned newly completed accommodation and recreational facilities in Abuja as part of efforts to improve personnel welfare, boost morale and enhance operational effectiveness.
The projects, commissioned on September 4, 2026, by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, include Airmen’s Quarters at Mogadishu Cantonment and Abacha Road, 065 Medical Officer’s Quarters, and the NAF Valley Base Sports Complex in Asokoro.
Speaking at the commissioning, Aneke described the projects as a significant milestone in the NAF’s ongoing efforts to improve personnel welfare and infrastructure.
He said the facilities went beyond physical structures, describing them as evidence of the Service’s deliberate commitment to improving the living conditions, physical well-being and overall effectiveness of its personnel.
According to him, the demands of military service require personnel to remain physically fit, mentally prepared and focused, making adequate accommodation and recreational facilities essential to sustaining operational readiness.
He said the new accommodation would provide airmen with a more conducive and secure living environment, while the sports complex would promote physical fitness, teamwork, recreation and esprit de corps among personnel.
The CAS also disclosed that the NAF was developing a sustainable framework to enable its personnel to own homes.
He said discussions were ongoing with banks and relevant government agencies to address factors contributing to the high cost of housing and limiting access to affordable homeownership for NAF personnel.
Aneke stressed that the initiative was part of the Service’s commitment to the welfare of personnel and their families, both during active service and after retirement.
The Air Chief further revealed that some blocks of the newly commissioned accommodation had been named after officers and airmen who paid the supreme price or distinguished themselves through gallantry in operational theatres.
He said the gesture was intended to preserve the memory of fallen heroes, honour their sacrifices and inspire future generations of NAF personnel.
According to him, the projects are also consistent with a key component of his leadership vision of maintaining a highly motivated force through improved welfare and infrastructural renewal.
Aneke commended everyone who contributed to the successful completion of the projects and urged beneficiaries to ensure their proper maintenance and judicious use.
He assured that the NAF would continue, within available resources, to implement initiatives aimed at improving the living and working conditions of its personnel while strengthening its capacity to discharge its constitutional responsibilities.
The commissioning, he added, reflects the Service’s continued commitment to building a well-supported, motivated and operationally effective force.
