NAF clarifies C-130 precautionary landing in Burkina Faso, crew safe as mission set to resume
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has issued an official clarification following reports about the diversion of one of its C-130 aircraft during a ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025.
According to a statement signed by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the aircraft departed Lagos but soon after takeoff the crew detected a technical concern. In line with standard safety procedures and international aviation protocols, the pilots executed a precautionary landing at the nearest suitable airfield—Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
NAF confirmed that all crew members are safe and have received “cordial treatment” from the host authorities in Burkina Faso.
The Air Force further disclosed that plans are underway to safely resume the mission as scheduled once technical checks are completed. It also expressed appreciation for the cooperation and support received during the incident.
Reassuring the public, the statement emphasized that the Nigerian Air Force remains professionally committed to operational discipline and strict adherence to safety standards to protect its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
