N-YSA gears up for CDS Democracy Day Basketball Championship

The N-Youth Sports Academy (N-YSA) basketball team is intensifying preparations ahead of the second edition of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Democracy Day Basketball Championship.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 13 to 18, 2025, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja. It will feature top basketball teams from across Nigeria, promising a competitive display of talent and athleticism.

Fresh from an impressive outing at the North Central Basketball Competition held in Jos, Plateau State, in February 2025, the N-YSA team is looking to build on its momentum. The academy’s athletes — all recipients of full sports scholarships — earned a runner-up finish in Jos after a hard-fought campaign, ultimately falling to the host state, Plateau.

The Jos competition included teams from Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, Kwara, and the FCT, all of whom were well represented by the N-YSA squad.

Looking ahead, the team is also set to participate in additional national events, including the Division One and Two Basketball Leagues later this year.

The N-YSA continues to invest in talent development, having recently hosted a successful basketball clinic at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium. The program drew over 200 players from Abuja and surrounding states and is considered a milestone in the academy’s outreach efforts.

To further support player development, the academy has established a well-equipped basketball camp, aimed at providing a safe and conducive environment for both male and female teams.

As the Democracy Day Championship approaches, the N-YSA remains committed to excellence, youth empowerment, and sustained sporting success.
