My Friends Sold Me Out In 2015- Jonathan Blasts Nigerian Politicians

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that he was betrayed by close associates during the 2015 general elections, which saw him lose his re-election bid to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the 70th birthday celebration of former Edo State deputy governor, Mike Oghiadomhe, in Benin City, Jonathan lamented that dishonesty and inconsistency remain deep-rooted problems in Nigeria’s political culture.

“Politics in the Nigerian context is about betrayals. I experienced a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election,” he said.

Jonathan further decried the lack of reliability among politicians, noting: “It’s rare to find someone who will say the same thing in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening. They tell you one thing now, and within the next hour, they say something entirely different.”

He, however, praised Oghiadomhe—his former Chief of Staff between 2010 and 2014—as one of the few allies who stood firm and loyal.

“Oghiadomhe is among the few friends I have who can stake their neck for me. He’s someone who would take a bullet on my behalf. He’s one person whose words you can take to the bank. Unfortunately, most politicians are not like that,” Jonathan declared.

The celebration drew notable dignitaries, including Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former Governors Lucky Igbinedion, Oserheimen Osunbor, and Ibrahim Dankwambo, as well as Tom Ikimi and senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome (SAN).
