May 29: APC, Buhari’s 5-year leadership, a disaster – Secondus

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has described the past five years of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government ‘a disaster’.
Secondus in a statement, personally signed by him, x-rayed six key sectors of the nation’s life since 2015 and said Nigeria was worse than what the party met it.
He said the past five years of President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC Federal Government were “regrettable years of anguish to the people due to the glaring incompetence and incapacity to deliver good governance.
“It has been five years of anguish for Nigerians that all negative indexes in our socio-political and economic life as a nation were activated.
“Looking back as a nation at the progress recorded in this country’s democratic journey in 2015 and where we are today, it would be difficult not to have regrets.
“All gains after independence, the civil war as well as the era the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully midwifed the nation’s democratic evolution up to the point of successfully seeing an opposition win and transit into power have been destroyed.”
Secondus regretted that all the democratic gains Nigeria recorded in 2015 had retrogressed under the APC government.
According to him, the nation’s security system has collapsed since Nigerians voted APC to power, noting that apart from the Boko Haram insurgents menacing people of the North East, many Nigerians have lost their lives to herdsmen and armed bandits.
“Nigeria remains grossly under policed by all international standards.
“Decentralization of command has become absolutely necessary, meaning that state police and community policing must be given urgent consideration,” the PDP National Chairman stated.
The PDP National Chairman noted that the anti-corruption agencies have been overwhelmed by the rate of corruption in the country.
“The only true way to describe this segment is to simply rely on the international scorecard that already put corruption status of Nigeria as getting worse,” he said.
Secondus also accused the APC government of destroying the nation’s democratic institutions, adding that the separation of power which was instituted to help grow and deepen democracy has been flagrantly abused.
