Marwa Laments Slain NDLEA Officer as Agency Nabs Six in Deadly Bonny Island Operation

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has expressed grief over the death of an officer during a major anti-drug operation in Bonny Island, Rivers State, even as operatives arrested six suspects and recovered large quantities of illicit drugs.

NDLEA operatives had stormed Ama Hausa, a notorious drug enclave on Bonny Island, where they apprehended six individuals and seized assorted narcotics, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk and tramadol.

The operation, however, turned violent when suspected drug dealers allegedly mobilised armed hoodlums to confront the officers. In the course of the attack, a personnel of the agency, Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid, sustained critical head injuries. He was rushed to the Bonny Island General Hospital but later died.

Despite the assault, NDLEA operatives successfully arrested all the suspects targeted in the raid, including the alleged gang leader, Genesis George Benson. Others taken into custody are ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed and Muhammed Yusuf.

Commending the officers for their courage, Marwa praised their resolve in the face of danger, noting that the attackers were subdued, the suspects arrested and the drugs recovered despite the loss suffered.

While mourning Mujahid, the NDLEA boss described him as a committed and brave officer who gave his life in service to the nation. He extended condolences to the deceased’s family, colleagues and the Rivers State Command.

Marwa warned that attacks on NDLEA personnel would be treated as attacks on the state, stressing that the agency remains resolute in its campaign against illicit drug networks and would continue to dismantle criminal enclaves across the country.
