Manchester United ready to match Sergi Roberto’s £36.5m release clause
Manchester United are willing to match Sergi Roberto’s release clause if the midfielder pushes for the Barcelona exit door.
The 25-year-old feels his opportunities in the starting XI will be few and far between this season, leading to speculation he could leave.
Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the Barca youth player has a release clause of £36.5million – a bargain in the current climate.
And Manchester United will reportedly have no issue matching it if he puts the wheels in motion to leave the Nou Camp.
The report says Roberto wants to stay at Barca for now but could change his mind before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
One factor which could decide his future is the potential arrival of Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool.
With Paulinho already coming in, the addition of Coutinho to the midfield could force Roberto further down the pecking order, prompting him to leave.
He also has Rafinha. Denis Suarez and youngster Carles Alena to compete with for a place in Barca’s starting XI.
Manchester United will not have it all their own way with Roberto, however, with Juventus also linked with a move for the midfielder.
