Man dies at birthday party in Lagos; police arrest friends

A 21-year-old man, Micheal Arigbabuwo, has lost his life in a birthday party after he allegedly mixed two hard drugs for maximum effects.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officers, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle on Saturday.

Hundeyin said the incident occurred in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Friday.

He stated that three of the deceased friends who were also at the party had been arrested.

The police spokesperson noted that information received by the police in Ikorodu showed that about 7.30 p.m. on Friday, a distress call came that some suspected internet fraudsters brought a corpse to the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu.

“Based on the information, teams of detectives visited and photographed the scene. Three young men of ages 23 and 24 were arrested.

“The suspects claimed that the deceased allegedly smoked loud and drank codeine at a birthday party of one of their friends held at Igbogbo area of Ikorodu.

“The suspects further claimed that the deceased began gasping for breath. He was rushed to the hospital but died,” Hundeyin said.

He added that the corpse was evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital, Ikorodu, for autopsy.

Hundeyin, however, warned youths against drug abuse, saying: “Thinking of doing drugs? Have a rethink as nothing fruitful emanates from it.”

According to him: “Investigation into the case has commenced.”
