Makinde still angry over lack of ministerial slot, Wike

Former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has alleged that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, remains aggrieved over not being nominated for a ministerial position in the current federal administration.

Wike made the statement while reacting to ongoing disagreements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly among influential governors and party leaders. According to him, Makinde’s actions and public comments in recent months are driven by frustration over his exclusion from President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial list.

“Makinde is still angry because he was not given a ministerial slot,” Wike said, suggesting that the Oyo State governor had expected a role at the federal level following the 2023 general elections.

The remark comes amid sustained internal tensions in the PDP, with Wike and Makinde often taking opposing positions on party leadership, strategy, and alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Both politicians were key figures in the G5 group of PDP governors that opposed the party’s presidential candidate during the last election.

Makinde has not officially responded to Wike’s claim. However, the Oyo State governor has previously maintained that his political decisions are guided by principles of good governance and the interests of his state, rather than personal ambition.

Political analysts say Wike’s comment underscores the deepening rift within the opposition party and highlights unresolved grievances that continue to shape political alliances ahead of future elections.
