Lisa Cook Sue Trump Over Attempt to Remove Her

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook filed a lawsuit on Thursday challenging former President Donald Trump’s attempt to remove her from office, intensifying the ongoing clash over the central bank’s independence.

In the lawsuit, Cook argues that Trump’s action represents an “unprecedented and unlawful” effort to dismiss a sitting Fed governor—something that, if upheld, would set a historic and troubling precedent for the institution.

Cook is seeking a court ruling affirming her lawful status as a member of the Federal Reserve Board, enabling her to remain in her role. She is also requesting immediate declaratory and injunctive relief to block the dismissal and to uphold the Federal Reserve’s congressionally protected autonomy.

The legal challenge follows a statement Trump posted Monday night on his Truth Social platform, where he claimed to have removed Cook from her post. He cited alleged falsehoods in her mortgage applications, including claims that she declared two different properties—in Michigan and Georgia—as her primary residence.

Despite these accusations, Cook has not been formally charged with any crime, and the alleged conduct predates her appointment to the Fed.

Analysts say Trump’s move marks a significant escalation in his efforts to influence the central bank, raising concerns about the erosion of its independence.
