LANDLORD FOR NIGERIAN JOURNALISTS DIED AT 90
A landlord for Ogun State Correspondents of Nigeria Media,Chief (Mrs) Winifred Coker has died at the age of 90 years.
The woman owned a storey building known as ‘fleet street’ located in Ijemo area of Abeokuta, which has remained state headquarters of all Nigerian newspapers,acquring offices there.
She has been a landlord for all correspondents of media houses for over 30 years till date.The building is said to be a replica of Fleet Street in United Kingdom
However, Mama Coker,as fondly called gave up the ghost in the early hours of Friday inside her bedroom.
The daughter-in-law of the nonagenerian, Yemisi Coker told our correspondent that her mother in-law died on her lap,after a brief old age complaint.
‘Yes Mama is dead. She died on my lap this morning. She was 90 years last month’,she disclosed
She said,her late mother-in-law who died at about 7.45am was observed to be inactive, unlike she used to be,hence,need to check on her,but discovered that,she was attempting to uttter a word,which remained inaudible.
The daughter-in-law who is called Iya Yinka said,it was at that stage, she was curious about the sudden development, and had to attend to her, putting her mother -in-law on her lap.
She said while still making move to make arrangement for being taken to hospital,she breathed her last on her lap.
The daughter-in-law said as at the time of filing this report, she has contacted children of the deceased,adding that the family would meet to decide the burial arrangement.
Meanwhile, a condolence register had been opened at the deceased home, where number of symphatizers were seen to register their sympathy over demise of the aged landlord.
An early caller and founder of penpushing social media,Prince Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji described the deceased as mother of journalists.
‘Mama was mother of journalists, who will be greatly missed. The old woman would be remembered for her caring attitude for journalists. May her gentle soul continued to rest in perfect peace’,the veteran journalist wrote
