Lagos Council Chair Launches Solar Borehole Projects In Eight Communities

The Chairman, Epe Local Government Council Area of Lagos State, Princess Surah Animashaun, has commenced the construction of solar-powered boreholes across eight (8) communities as part of efforts to improve access to potable and sustainable water supply for residents.

The projects according to the Chairperson was designed to bring more dependable source of water closer to residents in the benefiting communities, as well as to be able to have access to a drinkable water within the communities.

The council boss said that the solar-powered boreholes represent one of the interventions aimed at providing essential infrastructure within the local government, noting that the project reflected an approach focusing on practical solutions, sustainable infrastructure, and community development.

“The solar-powered facilities will utilise renewable energy to support water production, providing an alternative source of power for the borehole systems, moreover, the initiative goes beyond the construction of infrastructure, but focusing on addressing an everyday need affecting residents across the local government area,” Princess Animashaun said.

She noted that the access to reliable water remains important to households and communities, as well as making the development relevant to daily activities and wellbeing, thus, the solar-powered also intended to provide a sustainable solution that can serve the communities over an extended period.

“Indeed, by incorporating solar energy into the project, the facilities are expected to reduce reliance on conventional electricity sources while supporting continued water availability, moreover, the initiative forms part of the local government’s efforts to translate development plans into practical projects that directly benefit residents.” She added.

Princess Animashaun said that her administration development agenda was centred on delivering projects that respond to residents’ needs and improve everyday life, maintaining that the solar-powered borehole project marks another step towards strengthening basic infrastructure across the local government area.

She added that the eight benefiting communities were expected to provide greater convenience by bringing water infrastructure closer to their homes and neighbourhoods.

Among the communities covered by the initiative include Oke-Balogun, Etitun, Idi-Aba, Oke-posun, Ojewunmi, KLM, Agboriode, and Owolomoshe Streets, all in Epe communities area of the council.
